KLR650 - Submerged

My son Daniel and I decided to go for a ride down a jeep trail with lots of puddles after an early Spring rain. After blasting two-up through successively deep puddles the mighty KLR650 finally got stuck in Carolina muck and sunk in below the level of the air intake. Note to self: When the exhaust pipe starts blowing bubbles it is time to turn off the engine. To get out we had to use all our strength to lift the bike up and out because pushing was just getting the bike in deeper and stuck more.

To get the bike running again and us out of the woods I had to drain water out of the:

  • Carburetor
  • Air box
  • Exhaust system
  • Cylinder head

After this adventure I had to thoroughly tear down and detail the bike, flush the crankcase several times with new oil along with new filters, clean the air filter and re-pack the bearings.
